When not competing on the Wall, Völkl team riders ski the Step, a symmetrical ski with tip and tail rocker and a shape of 112-85- 112mm. For skiers who want a well-equipped ski that will ride equally well switch or forward, the Volkl 2015 Skis have a P-tex 2000 base, something not previously offered at this price level, along with a full Multi-Layer wood core and Tough Box construction.

Volkl Step Skis Technology

The Volkl 2015 skis have a multi-Layer Wood Core-Völkl freeskiing with models that feature a multi-layer wood core that features two different densities of wood. In the binding attachment area, a dense, ash core is used, while in the rest of the Volkl Step skis, the core is popular. The more dense wood creates more secure screw retention, preventing binding pull-out, and the soft, supple poplar section allows for resilience and snap. The flex pattern is tailored to each Volkl 2015 skis, depending on the desired performance. This popular wood core is featured in more models of Volkl skis for 14/15.

Tough Box Construction-Tough Box construction consists of the use of a Multi-Layer wood core (see below) and a composite/fiberglass sheath to create the ultimate resilience and snap for our freeskiing models. The sheath is wrapped around the wood core in the mid-body of the ski, increasing strength and screw retention. Many Vˆlkl freeskiing models also feature a carbon layer in the bottom of the ski that provides additional stability and durability.

Powered Construction-Conventional vertical sidewalls combined with a Torsion Box construction used in Völkl's freeskiing and race lines. Often combined with a Tough Box sheath in the freeski models.

Tip and Tail Rocker-The ski has a variable edge length in the shovel and tail areas. The rocker height is minimal. The variable edge set between the shovel and tail makes the ski turn-happy. That in turn allows for a stiffer flex setup. A longer ski can be selected.
