Changing such an iconic ski could only be done if
we improved it. The new Gotama features an all new
shape of 137-106-122mm. The powder and switch-riding
performance is incredible, and yet skiers who want
to use it as an every day ski will have greater versatility.
Leave it to Völkl to introduce what just a few
years ago
would have been inconceivable: a rockered, big mountain
twin tip that you can use every day at the resort.

THREE FLEX ZONES
The Gotama and Kuro feature three flex zones: the
front of the ski is stiff – since the rocker
design is pre-flexed, added stiffness in front provides
stability. The flex in the mid-body of the ski is
medium, providing a transition to the softer tail,
which allows ease of turning on the groomed, and maneuverability
in powder.
EXTENDED LOW-PROFILE ROCKER DESIGN
The introduction of ELP (Elongated, Low Profile) rocker
design allows Völkl to give skiers the easy maneuvering
of reverse-camber ski design without sacrificing groomed
snow performance. The basic premise of all Völkl’s
rocker designs is that a long, gradual bend provides
just the right shape to ride high in deep snow –
yet when you put it on edge, it has greater edge/snow
contact, for better groomed-snow performance. The
rocker shape for each ski model varies slightly, but
all rely on this unifying principle. For next season,
Völkl engineers focused on bringing the performance
advantage of ELP to more skiers with a totally re-designed
Gotama.
TOUGH BOX CONSTRUCTION
Tough Box construction consists of the use of a Multi-Layer
wood core and a composite/fiberglass sheath to create
the ultimate resilience and snap for our freeskiing
models. The sheath is wrapped around the wood core
in the mid-body of the ski, increasing strength and
screw retention. Many Völkl freeskiing models
also feature a carbon layer in the bottom of the ski
that provides additional stability and durability.
ROUND SHAPE THROUGHOUT
A round overall shape allows easy smearing and speed
control without sacrificing the tracking characteristics
and firm snow performance of our big mountain skis.
The profile features a smooth, gradual bend toward
the nose and tail. It‘s high enough to float
in powder, but when you tip the ski on edge, there‘s
more consistent edge contact, giving the skier more
control, regardless of snow conditions.
SYMETRICAL SIDECUT
The symmetrical sidecut allows the park and pipe rider
the best possible performance by allowing a center-mounted
ski to perform the same while riding switch as it
does while riding forward. It also allows completely
even balance for rail sliding, since the exact same
amount of material is over the rail on both sides.
BUTTER ZONE
Völkl jibbing skis feature a butter zone, softer
in the fore body of the ski for rolling up on the
tip, but with a normal, progressive flex pattern in
the tail for support on landings, and enhanced all-mountain
performance.
SENSORWOOD CORE
Like the Extended Sensorwood Core, the Sensorwood
core is CNC milled using vertically laminated poplar
and beech wood.
