Please note that these files reflect mostly our community projects, programs, "Fun, Work & Fellowship." Our international projects can be reviewed by going back to our Home Page and clicking on "Volunteer Work," or "Polio Eradication." During the years 1999 and 2000 Sharon and I accepted the challenge of serving as Governor of District 5240, here in Southern California. These first pages will reflect only a few of our activities. It was a rewarding experience and one of the 'watersheds' of our lives.
We visited and spoke to 64 clubs in our district, encouraged the members to continue to foster the ideals of service in their professional and personal lives. I had previously been doing volunteer work for some 8 years among the Karaja Indians in Brazil, the indigents of Bangladesh and Nigeria. I had also explored and initiated programs for malaria abatement in Mozambique and Guyana. These experiences were utilized to make our members aware of international needs and our ability to "Make a Difference" in the world. You can read more about this work in the "Volunteer" secton. Following my governorship I was invited to go to the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta for further training on the skills and strategy of eradication polio. I was sent to many countries to represent Rotary, in coordination with CDC, who paid my expenses, and WHO. Later WHO invited me to work with them as a Short Time Consultant, and I have been doing so since the year January of 2003. You may read more about this in the "Polio Eradication" section.
