He married KLARA KOLDITZ.
Notes for PAUL HERMANN AUSTEL:
Communications with the granddaughter of Paul Austel, Liselotte nee Harnisch,
provides us with the information that Paul was the brother of Karl Emil Austel
(b. 5/4/1865) and that he died on Jan. 2, 1934 at the age of 58. This would
place the year of his birth in 1876. This date is would mean that Paul was
born 9 years after the death of the wife of his father's wife Johanna Christine
Ebenhoh. The date of her demise was, April 20, 1867, two weeks after the birth
of her last child, Emma Pauline (April 7, 1876) at the age of 33. This raises
the possibility that his father, Christian Wilhelm Austel, who was born February
15, 1929 and was only 47 at the birth of Paul Austel, could have remarried
or entered into a relationship with another partner after the death of his
wife, resulting in another son.

Frieda's letter to her cousin, she also indicated that Johannes was a pilot.
(In this case Hermann translated the word as a pilot of a dive bomber). I
was also by told by Mom and tante Frieda that was he missing in action.
Marianne - Ed and I understood that he was a fighter pilot and thought he
was missing much before the end of the war.

that during the maneuvers he became missing.

28, 1927 in Los Angeles. He married ROSEMARIE LANQUILLON April 24, 1949 in
First German Methodist Church, Los Angeles, Calif., daughter of WILHELM LANQUILLON
and MARGARETE GRETL'. She was born December 19, 1926.
Notes for REV., DR. HERMANN JOHANNES AUSTEL:
Hermann was born Oct. 28, 1927, as the oldest son of Hans and Fenna Austel.
Saved early in life. Called to the ministry during high school days, but felt
inadequate as a public speaker, so decided to pursue a career in chemistry.
Enrolled at UCLA, then drafted into the army at age 18 in 1945, after 11/2
years of college. Sent to Japan on occupation duty. Assigned to a laboratory,
testing petroleum products to be used by US military. Active in GI Gospel
services, and taught Bible classes in a Japanese high school, also in a Japanese
home (this through an interpreter). Discharged after one year of service,
when the war was officially declared to be over.
Returned to UCLA to finish the program in chemistry. During this time felt
very strongly the call to the ministry, and told the Lord he was now willing,
though not knowing how God would use him.
Finished in 1949, married his sweetheart of some years, Rosemarie Austel.
She has been a loving and faithful companion through the years, raising the
8 children God gave them, encouraging him and helping him in innumerable ways,
always willing to go wherever God led.
Worked in the Naval shipyard laboratory in Mare Island, CA for about a year,
Heavily involved with the ministry in the Vallejo Bible Church, in youth ministry,
as choir director, and wherever needed. Peter and Paul were born during this
time.
Returned to LA to prepare for the ministry, first to Biola for 1 semester,
then to the Los Angeles Baptist Seminary, where he studied for 4 years, while
working to support his family. Philip and Becki were born during this time.
At the beginning of his 3rd year in Seminary, he was asked to teach beginning
Greek to college students. Also, at the same time, he accepted the call to
become pastor of a German speaking congregation (where he stayed for 10 years),
while still working in secular employment.
Upon graduation from Seminary, he was asked to join the faculty, teaching
Hebrew as well as Greek.
Entered UCLA again, where he studied on a part-time basis, receiving his MA
and PhD degrees in Ancient Near Eastern Languages and Literature. He continued
to teach full - time during this period, also continued as pastor for the
first part of this time, greatly helped by his father, and for several years,
by his brother Otto.
In 1974 the Seminary relocated to Tacoma WA, where it was renamed Northwest
Baptist Seminary. Here he continued as Academic Dean, as well as professor
of Hebrew and Old Testament in which capacity he served a total of about 35
years (including the time in LA). Also heavily involved with the ministry
of Temple Baptist Church in Tacoma, as well as in pastoral seminars from time
to time.
As of July 2005, still teaching, though retired from the position of Dean
for about 10 years. He and Rosemarie have the joy of seeing their children
growing up to love the Lord. Two are pastors, Peter and Bill. Their youngest,
Tim, is a virtual lay preacher. Becki is a church secretary. The others all
serve the Lord in various capacities. Heide is involved with her husband Andy
in small group ministries, Philip has taught in a Christian high school, and
teaches adult classes. John has been a faithful supporter of the Seminary
for years.
Hermann was part of the OT translation team of the New American Standard Bible,
has authored commentaries in the books of Kings, Nahum, Haggai, and Zechariah;
contributed to a series of Hebrew theological word studies, as well as a chapter
on the United Monarchy in a book dealing with various critical issues in OT
studies.

Notes for WILLIAM JOHN AUSTEL:
Pastor Bill was born in Northridge, California, the 7th of eight children.
He grew up in Newhall, Southern California where he accepted Christ as his
personal Savior as a young child. As a teenager, his family moved up to the
Great Northwest. He later graduated from Wilson High School in Tacoma in 1982.
He has been privileged to be surrounded by Christian ministry since childhood, having been raised in a Christian home where the Lord's work was always considered a high calling. That calling was modeled before him as he grew up watching his dad, Hermann Austel, serve in various areas of ministry in their local church, not to mention having been a pastor at a German-speaking church and a professor at Northwest Baptist Seminary in Tacoma, Washington, for over fifty years.
During his high school years, he fell in love with Heidi, the daughter of former missionaries to Chad, Africa, Hank and Bonnie Hergert. Bill and Heidi were married in 1984, and together they dedicated themselves to follow the Lord wherever He should call them to serve. Bill was ordained in September of 1997 and graduated from seminary in June of 2000.
Pastor Bill has served in many areas of ministry through the years, both in lay and professional positions, including youth pastor and senior pastor in area churches. In May of 2003, God called Pastor Bill to begin planting a church in the North Lake Tapps community.
Pastor Bill and Heidi have four children ranging in age from 10 to 21. Their children have grown up participating in mom and dad's ministries from the time they were babies. Secularly, Bill has been a full-time firefighter for the City of Tacoma for twelve years and, in fact, continues to work there as he works to plant New Life Community Church.

GOTTLOB FRIEDRICH7, GOTTFRIED6, BARTHOLOMÄUS5, BARTHEL4, SALOMON3 AUGSTEN,
BARTHEL2, PROGENITORS OF THE1 AUSTELS) was born May 29, 1929 in Los Angeles,
California, USA. He married (1) DREDA MAXINE SMITH June 1949 in Chico, California,
daughter of ELMER SMITH and FLORENCE MESMER. She was born October 18, 1920
in Vermillion, Kansas. He married (2) SHARON RAE BERUBE December 31, 1978
in Simi Valley, California. She was born May 18, 1946 in Rola.
Notes for DR. OTTO EMIL AUSTEL:
Otto was the second child of Hans and Fenna Austel. He excelled in gymnastics
and became the president of the letterman's club in Woodrow Wilson High School
(El Sereno). After High School he was inspired to become a missionary and
went to Chico, California to attend the New Tribes Missionary School, where
he was trained in linguistics and also went through a boot camp. He met Dreda
Smith in NTM, where she worked as a secretary. They married in June of 1949,
after Otto finished his missionary school training.
They eventually went to Brazil in 1950 and on worked, off and on, some 10 years among the primitive Karaja Indians in Mato Grosso of Central Brazil. They had 4 sons ( & 5 miscarriages). Martin and Hermann (Brandon) were born in Brazil and Leland was born in Seattle, during their furlough and Vernon was born after they returned - during Otto's first year of medical school. Otto was mostly involved in documenting the Karaja language and culture and developing a written format that would coincide with the Portuguese orthography. Unfortunately, Martin died of Malaria in the jungles of Brazil and the family moved back to the US, with the goal of getting a medical degree and returning to help with the health challenges that the Indians were facing.
Otto worked as a youth paster for his brother Hermann's church as well as an insurance agent when they returned from Brazil. This enabled him to support the family as well as pay his tuition when he went through college for pre-med and medical school. Otto and family lived in a home that his parents had purchased in Alhambra - on Charnwood.
After a Family Practice Residency the family moved to Simi Valley, CA., in 1969, where he established a medical group Family Health Care. This eventually became a 44 doctor group with some 250 employees. He immediately became active in the community, founded a Boys and Girls Club, worked and helped develop the Free Clinic, founded Camp Rotary and became active as a school board trustee. He became the Medical Director of the Simi Valley Hospital and was named 3 times as the "Doctor of the Year."
Otto and Dreda separated and they finalized their divorced in 1973. Later Otto met and married Sharon, who was a widow with two girls. During a Group Study Exchange to Brazil, a Rotary International program, he went to Brazil with Sharon as the Team Leader. They took the opportunity to fly into the interior to visit the Karaja Indians. Otto resolved to return and help them in their struggle for survival.
From 1991 to 2001 Otto returned to the Karaja and with the financial support and volunteer assistance of Rotary International, was able to establish 8 clinics and train many young Karaja the basics of medicine. Each major village became the recipient of a closed well and solar pump system to ensure health, potable water. Thousands of mosquito nets were imported and treated with insecticide, and this helped eliminate the threat of malaria the area of the Araguaia River, where the Karaja Indians lived.
During this time he also went to Nigeria to work in a 200 bed hospital (the only physician) that had no electricity or running water, Bangladesh - to work in the villages along the Bangla river of the Delta and in Mozambique.
In 1999, Otto became the governor of Rotary District 5240 (So. Calif.) and spent a year visiting and speaking to the clubs in that district. (He had retired from active practice in 1996)
From 2001 to 2004, Otto worked almost full time as a volunteer for the Center for Disease Control and as a paid short term consultant for the World Health Organization to eradicate polio from the world. His assignments were in Ghana. Angola, Egypt, Pakistan and India. He had two assignments in Ghana and Egypt. When he returned from India at the end of 2004, he was diagnosed as having throat cancer, with metastasis to 4 lymph nodes in the neck. He underwent surgery, which removed the base of his tongue, and the lymph nodes on the right side of the neck. This was followed by radiation.

Marriage Notes for OTTO AUSTEL and DREDA SMITH:
Dreda and Otto met at the New Tribes Mission school. Dreda had already finished
her training and was working as a secretary. Otto was attracted to her, although
she was some 8 years older than he. She was well educated, a good musician,
played the piano and had a trained voice for singing. They had no money, so
she made her wedding dress from a war surplus parachute. Her aunt 'Stringy'
bought their simple wedding rings.
Marriage Notes for OTTO AUSTEL and SHARON BERUBE:
Sharon became a widow with two young daughters, Tonya and Brians in 1973.
Otto and Sharon became partners in 1974 and then married on the last day of
December 1978.
Children of OTTO AUSTEL and DREDA SMITH are:
i. MARTIN EDWARD14 AUSTEL, b. February 25, 1951, Goiania, Brazil; d. February
28, 1959, Macauba, Ilha do Bananal, Goiaz, Brazil.
Notes for MARTIN EDWARD AUSTEL:
Martin just turned 8 when he became a victim of malaria, probably falciparum.
He died on the third day after he began his fever. He was given the Chloroquine,
but the falciparum plasmodium were probably resistant to its effects. He was
a very obedient, loving and fun boy. He was a good swimmer, played all day
with the Karaja Indians in the jungles of Brazil. He spoke English, German,
Karaja and Portuguese.

Notes for HERMAN DELBERT (AKA BRANDON) AUSTEL:
Brandon is an avid reader and very knowledgeable. He struggles with his teaching
profession, since his students are all high risk children in High School and
have little interest in education, especially in the sciences.
Brandon loves outdoor activity and is constantly on hikes. He is also very conscientious about exercising and health issues. He is a very devoted father and is committed to Amanda, his daughter, in spite of divorce.

iv. DR VERNON RALPH AUSTEL, b. November 04, 1963, Los Angeles, California, USA; m. PAULA, 1995, New York; b. April 15, 1962.
Notes for DR VERNON RALPH AUSTEL:
Vernon was born during his father's first year in medical school, which meant
that he didn't receive much quality time from his father, because of the pressures
of studying. He amazed his parents with his curiosity and desire to learn.
After his mother and father separated, he moved from Simi Valley to a small
rural town of Norco with his mother Dreda and his brother Brandon for three
years, where he enjoyed feeding chickens, ducks and geese, and riding his
horse Ossie. Despite hopes to attend Cal Tech, he enrolled at UCLA, mostly
because his elder brother Leland had recently earned his master's degree there.
After one year (during which he received credit for 2 years by passing exams)
he began a search for Truth, which required a great deal of time with no responsibilities,
so he went to Heidelberg, Germany, where he studied all manner of things for
five years, but accomplished little, academically speaking. Having finished
the college fund his father Otto gave him, he returned home and finished his
studies, eventually drifting into an esoteric branch of computer science and
earning a doctorate after a great deal of effort. During this process he started
working for IBM to pay his bills, and when the project he was working on moved
to New York he decided to try the east coast for a year. There he met another
IBM employee named Paula Sweeney. He then decided that he enjoyed New York
too much to leave. After many happy years of marriage, he and Paula decided
to adopt a child from Russia, which had the fringe benefit of giving him an
excuse to learn some Russian. Victoria has been a delight; she has a sunny
disposition, and is always genuinely delighted to see him.

MONA JANE BROWDER August 19, 1957 in Los Angeles. She was born March 30, 1932.
Notes for WERNER PAUL AUSTEL:

Werner Paul Austel
Werner was the third son born to Hans and Fenna Austel. He was born August 12, 1934.
He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1952. He lettered in football and gymnastics. He was also vice president of his senior class.
He entered Biola College in 1952 with the intent of either becoming a minister or missionary. Two years latter he switched his major to psychology, not feeling comfortable with becoming either a minister or missionary. Werner lettered in basketball, was elected vice president of the associated student body and in 1957 was elected president of the student body. Shortly after being elected president he received a draft notice. The Dean of the Students was unable to gain a deferment for him so a new election was held. Werner was engaged to Mona Browder, whom he met at Biola and she was graduating at the end of the year. Werner called the draft board and asked for a two week deferment so that he could attend Mona's graduation and meet her parents and relatives. After Mona's graduation, Werner called the draft board to inform them that he was ready to proceed with the draft. He was told it would be awhile before they called him again. Werner and Mona decided to get married and they did on August 16, 1957. In December Werner's draft status was reclassified because Mona was pregnant with their first child, who was born on July 6 in Anaheim, California. The other three children were born in Whittier, California.
Werner did not return to Biola but transferred to Los Angles State University to finish his degree in psychology. From 1958 to 1960 he attended night school while also teaching 6th grade in his first year and 8th grade in his second year on a provisional basis, since he as yet did not have a college degree. He graduated from L.A. State in 1960 and in July of that year was hired as a candidate for an AT&T executive program at Pacific Bell.
During his career, he had a variety of field and staff assignments at Pacific Bell, as well as at AT&T. There were several unusual assignments given to Werner that had a significant impact both on AT&T and Pacific Bell. In 1964 the federal government sued AT&T for discrimination against females and minorities. One of the agreements in the consent decree was for AT&T to develop a management evaluation system. This was to ensure female managers, in typically held female positions, would be paid the same as male managers, in jobs typically held by men. In 1965 he was loaned to AT&T and became one of 6 project managers assigned to develop a management job evaluation system for all managers in the Bell system. In 1967 he was given the responsibility for implementing this evaluation system in Pacific Bell. This resulted in salaries being significantly increased for traditional female jobs, such as chief operators and business office supervisors. In 1971 he was sent to AT&T to implement the management job evaluation program throughout the companies belonging to the Bell System.
In 1972, his supervisor at AT&T asked Werner to join him in a new organization established for the express purpose of working with Bell Labs, Western Electric and the Bell System Telephone Companies in providing new data and communication services and equipment to customers.
In 1979, Werner became the executive director for Pacific Bell's corporate seminar for middle managers and above. The purpose of the seminar was to get the managers ready for changes in the telecommunications industry. Business professors from Stanford, University of California at Berkeley, and Northwestern University were used to educate the attendees. Case studies were used to illustrate the changes that had to be made when a firm moved from a protected monopolistic business model to a competitive one.
In 1982 AT&T resolved a suit with the Justice Department over monopolistic practices and consented to divest Pacific Bell. This was the break up of the Bell System, the biggest corporate break up in history at that time. Werner was given the responsibility to create an organization responsible for Pacific Bell's contracting and supply chain management. This work was previously done by AT&T and its manufacturing subsidiary, Western Electric. He had 18 months to hire people, develop policies, procedures, and systems so that in January 1984 Pacific Bell would be in a position to purchase $ 3 ½ billion worth of services and goods. He also became the chair for the seven baby bell's committee negotiating with AT&T during the divestiture. He was responsible for Pacific Bell's Procurement organization until he retired on December 31, 1990.
In 1985, Pacific Bell sent Werner to an MBA program exclusive for business executives at Pepperdine University. He graduated in 1996, being one of two receiving honors for their master thesis.
Upon his retirement, Werner became active in the leadership of his Presbyterian
Church in Danville. He was an elder, clerk of session for three years, deacon,
and moderator of the deacons. He also established an outreach program for
the disabled in the community. He established a Special Olympic basketball
program at the church for individuals 7 years old and up. This program started
out with about 25 individuals and then grew to over a hundred. Several teams
were spun off so that people could be closer to their home. Later on, Werner
established a joint effort with Young Life, a Christian faith based organization
in Contra Costa County, to provide a year around program so that after basketball
season, the disabled could continue to meet on a social basis as well as to
learn more about Christianity and the love of God. These individuals were
also integrated with non-disabled people attending summer and winter camp.
In 1995, Werner was asked by California State Senate's Advisory Commission
on Cost Control in State Government to conduct a study and write a report
on what the State should do in improving their procurement operations. Subsequent
to publication of the report, Werner was asked to serve as a Commissioner
on that committee. He has been involved in many studies resulting in reports
published by the Senate and distributed to the legislators and administration.
In 1998, Werner was asked to serve on a committee for youth safety and development. City officials, educators, service clubs, and community leaders from San Ramon, Danville and Alamo were involved in providing policies and specific programs for the youth in these cities.
In July 2004, Werner, Mona and his daughter Daryl moved to San Diego (El Cajon) to be closer to their three children and four grandchildren.

Notes for DARYL SUZANNE AUSTEL:
DARYL SUSANNE AUSTEL
Daryl was born on February 17, 1963. She is the youngest of four children. She moved a lot with her parents. She was born in Whittier California and lived in West Covina until 1965 when her dad transferred to San Francisco. She lived in Walnut Creek, which is about 30 miles east of San Francisco. Then in 1969 her parents moved to Long Beach and lived there for 2 years before moving to the East Coast. Her dad worked in Manhattan and the family lived in New Jersey. Then in 1975 the family moved back to California and lived in Woodland Hills. In 1979 the family moved back to the San Francisco area and lived in Danville. The community she lived in later changed its zip code and her address was changed from Danville to Alamo.
She graduated from Los Alamos High School in Walnut Creek. When she was a senior she participated in Special Olympics track competition. She won first place enabling her to fly to Los Angeles and compete in Special Olympics California track competition. It was held at UCLA. She won the gold medal. The gold medal was presented to her by Rafer Johnson, who was the 1960 Olympic gold winner in the decathlon.
After graduating from high school, she volunteered as a teachers' aid at several pre-schools. Then she was hired on a part time basis to work as a teacher's aid at the San Ramon Methodist Pre-School. She did this for 18 years.
She became very close with the young people at the Community Presbyterian Church in Danville. They called her "Barnabas" because she cared and prayed for them all. She consider herself to be their prayer warrior.
Daryl became involved in Special Olympic basketball and Young Life as an adult. She initially helped special needs children, between the ages of 7-15 in the basketball program. Later on, she decided to play basketball with the other adults. Several times, her team was invited to play basketball as an exhibition during half-time at the University of California at Berkeley.
In July 2004, her parents moved to El Cajon, Calif. Her brother and sisters live in El Cajon. Her sister Colleen lives only a half-a-mile away from us. Colleen wants Daryl to live with her after her parents pass away.
Daryl is viewed as a faithful, dependable, caring and loving person. She loves biking, swimming, working out at the health club, eating out, and going to the movies. She has such an accepting nature that children of all ages show her that they care for and trust her. Her animals love her too. They ask her to let them go in and out of the house. They also remind her when it is dinner time. She always responds to them.
